Decorating a home office has to be one of the most exciting things you can do as an entrepreneur. Having your own home office signals you’ve truly made it (or I like to think so anyways). I don’t have a full home office yet (more so different spaces I use as my office), but I can’t WAIT until I have my very own office space to decorate.

Ladies, we live in peculiar times.

On one hand, the impact of the feminine society begins to take hold in the modern, previously exclusively patriarchal environment, as women from across the globe are increasingly becoming widely recognised for their skills, expertise, general badassery.

Not to mention an innate talent to challenge any goal and thrive through adversity.

On the other, you still have to prove your strength wherever you go.

Where a man would crack, a woman will persevere.

After all, one does not go through a lifetime of  stomach cramps without becoming a terminator in her own right.

A feminine terminator deserves an office to aid her in reaching her goals and establishing her reputation in the competitive world.

Here are great tips on how to transform your office into a haven of productivity and lifelong prosperity.

Day Planner

Call me old school, but I can’t live without a paper day planner. There are a ton of calendars and schedulers online now, but there’s something about pen and paper that makes me feel so much more organized.

I’ve been using the Day Designer since the beginning of this year, and I’m absolutely loving it. I don’t think I can go back to anything else. Each day is organized by hour, plus every day has its own to-do list, “top 3” and a spot for “daily gratitude” “don’t forget” “notes” and more!  My weeks are always filled with meetings, so it’s helpful to have everything laid out by hour. Once I have my meetings filled in I can plan out the rest of the work I need done. 

Succulents/Plants

I’m a sucker for plants and succulents. Preferably ones that don’t need much attention. It’s not that I neglect them, I just, sort of…forget. I’m really into big fig leaf plants these days. I think they look amazing in a home office and are a great way to bring the outdoors in. Succulents are also great to place around your office, on your desk, bookshelf or window ledge. They’re easy to care for and make for great décor pieces.

Wall Art

I’ve started collecting some wall art, but I can’t wait until it all comes together. I love wall art because you can make it your own, and use a combination of prints, quotes, art, photos and portraits. I’ve also seen people hang dream catchers and mirrors as part of their gallery wall, which gives it some dimension.

Choose Your Design Style

Choosing your design style makes it so much easier to pick out furniture and decor for your office space. Without seeing the big picture, throwing pieces together doesn’t always work out. Think about the workspace you want to step into every day. Is it Scandinavian? Bohemian? Minimalist? Bright and airy? Bold and vibrant? In what type of space are you most productive? Some people work best in minimalist home offices with little to no colour and not much on the walls, while others work best in spaces with bold, bright hues and tons of art.

Dream Board

Create a dream board a put it in your workspace where you can see it every day. Visually reminding yourself of your goals on a daily basis is a promising way to get where you want to go. Visualization is a proven way to overcome limitations and reach our goals. If you don’t even know where you want to go, how can you take the proper steps to get there? Whether it’s a trip you want to take, your dream kitchen renovation, a $20K product launch, or all of the above, putting it on your dream board makes it more tangible. Now you just have to put in the work to get there!

Open Shelves

I love the look of open shelves in an office space. It can be a full bookshelf or individual shelves you put up on your walls. You can fill them with anything you want from books to flowers to photos to ring holders. It allows you to showcase your creativity and design sense, and also keeps you tidy and organized (Because you can’t hide things!). You’ll definitely want to have some closed storage space, because there will be things you want out of sight, but open shelves brighten and open up the space.

Area Rug

There’s something about an area rug that makes a space that much cozier. We recently got a rug from Wayfair for under our kitchen table (where I do a lot of my work) and it’s made a world of difference! Not only does it bring the room together, it’s nice not to have to rest your feet on the hardwood, especially when it’s cold!
